Rituals and routines are similar in that they create predictability for children so they know what is going on and what will happen next. This creates a sense of security and comfort for children. Routines are repeated and predictable, like a tick list of 'must-do' tasks to be completed; rituals are special practices with our children.

In this episode, you can find out more about the importance of rituals from Rachel Symes.

Acknowledgement from Rachael: At AIS we were very fortunate to be able to have Childspace New Zealand run PD for our teachers and leaders based around their book Rituals, Making the everyday Extraordinary in Early Childhood by Memory Loader and Toni Christie. Their work really resonated with our philosophy of Love, Care and Respect. I am sharing what we have learned from them and how we have applied it to our Early Years.

Host: Rae Lang (Director of Teaching and Learning @Woodland Pre-Schools)
Guest: Rachael Symes (Head of Early Years @The Early Learning Village at AIS Singapore)
