At our Happy Valley campus, Beavers (Stepping Stones programme) had a great time painting on foil. Initially, we were planning to use earbuds for painting, which we had done before and enjoyed, but one child decided to use the cooked spaghetti, which we had for sensory, instead. Instantly, I thought this was brilliant and led with it.

It was wonderful to see them take initiative and explore without me interfering with their creative minds. That made me truly understand what Rae Pica was talking about in her interview with Kathy Brodie on Early Years TV, ”What if we taught the way children learn?” That day, the children taught me how they wanted to learn!
